The Friedel-Craftsacylation of arenes with esters by dimethylchlorosilane and 10 mol % of indium tribromide has been achieved. The key intermediate RCOOSi(Cl)Me(2) is generated from alkoxy esters with the evolution of the corresponding alkanes. The scope of the alkoxy ester moiety was wide: tert-butyl, benzyl, allyl, and isopropyl esters were successful. In addition, we demonstrated the direct synthesis
Compounds of the following general formula are useful as antihistamine agents, antiallergy agents and bronchodilators: ##SPC1## Wherein R represents hydrogen or hydroxy; R.sup.1 represents hydrogen; or R and R.sup.1 taken together form a second bond between the carbon atoms bearing R and R.sup.1 ; n is the integer 4 or 5; Y represents ##EQU1## or ##EQU2## Z represents phenyl or a substituted phenyl ring wherein the substituent on the substituted phenyl ring is attached at the ortho, meta, or para position of the phenyl ring and is selected from halogen, a straight or branched alkyl group of from 1 to 6 carbon atoms, alkoxy of from 1 to 6 carbon atoms, cycloalkyl of from 3 to 6 carbon atoms, di(lower)alkylamino, or a saturated monocyclic heterocyclic group selected from pyrrolidino, piperidino, morpholino or N-(lower)alkyl-piperazino; and pharmaceutically acceptable acid addition salts and individual optical isomers.

Herein, we report a new electrochemical method for alkoxyradical generation from alcohols using a proton-coupled electron transfer (PCET) approach, showcased via the deconstructive functionalization of cycloalkanols. The electrochemical method is applicable across a diverse array of substituted cycloalkanols, accessing a broad range of synthetically useful distally functionalized ketones. The orthogonal
A photoredox/Lewis acid cooperative catalytic system has been developed for the construction of Cvinyl–CRf bonds through the dehydrative difluoroalkylation of benzyl alcohols. A variety of allylic gem-difluorides could be obtained in moderate yields with good to excellent E/Z selectivity. In addition, several control experiments have been explored, and a possible mechanism was proposed for this process
