Blade coating of fabrics: rheology and fluid penetration
摘要:
The coating of fabrics generally involves the use of complex fluids as coating compounds. During the coating process, these compounds are submitted to various stresses. This paper investigates the influence of the rheological properties of the fluid on its penetration into the fabric. Experiments were performed with several kinds of model polymer solutions on a cotton fabric. Penetration coefficients were obtained from reflectance measurements on the face and reverse sides of the fabric. The results show that there are competitive effects between shear‐thinning which promotes penetration and elasticity which tends to reduce it.
