  戊烯合酶催化法呢基二磷酸 (1) 环化为倍半萜烃戊烯 (4)。(4S,8S)-[4,8-3H2, 4,8-14C2] 法呢基二磷酸 (1a) 和 (4R,8R)-[4,8-3H2, 4,814C2] 法呢基二磷酸 (1b) 与从链霉菌 UC5319 分离的戊烯合酶和衍生的标记戊烯 4a 和 4b 的分析分别通过化学降解确定 FPP 的 H-8si 在环化为戊烯时丢失。考虑酶促环化中间体的合理构象表明，形成戊烯的 C-4,5 键的亲电烯丙基加成消除 (SE') 反应涉及正在形成的 CC 键与最终断裂的 C—H 键。
