A compound containing at least two aromatic rings covalently bonded together, with each aromatic ring containing at least one oxyacetamide-based side chain, the compound being capable of forming a chloride ion channel across a lipid bilayer, and transporting chloride ion across the lipid bilayer.
In an organic luminescence device formed of one or plural layers of organic films between an anode and a cathode, at least one layer is any one of a luminescence layer, an electron injection layer and an electron-transporting layer and is formed of at least a phenolic derivative of any one of formulas (1-

By the use of the phenolic derivative, the resultant organic luminescence device produces a high-luminance fluorescent luminescence at a low voltage for a long period of time.
