Two novel functional rigid ligands, 2,2′- and 4,4′-bipyridyl-based “building blocks”, 9-ethyl-3,6-bis[2-(4-pyridyl)ethenyl]carbazole (L1) and 9-ethyl-3,6-bis[2-(2-pyridyl)ethenyl]carbazole (L2), were synthesized.
