Abstract (Z)-3-(2-Aryl-2-oxoethylidene)morpholin-2-ones were synthesized by the reaction of aroylpyruvic acids with ethanolamine or 2-propanolamine. The products reacted with oxalylchloride to form 8-aroyl-3,4-dihydropyrrolo[2,1-c][1,4]oxazin-1,6,7(1H)-triones.

For the first time, an efficient, simple, synthetic green protocol for the one-pot synthesis of functionalized 2-oxo-benzo[1,4]oxazines 24–29 in water under ultrasound irradiation is presented. A method for the synthesis of substituted 4-(het)aryl-4-oxo-2-thienylaminobut-2-enoic acidscontaining a nitrile substituent in the thiophene ring was proposed. Intramolecular cyclization of the obtained compounds in the presence of propionic anhydride leads to the formation of new substituted 3-thienylimino-3H-furan-2-ones.
