    A new furostanol glycoside — karatavioside C (I) has been isolated from a methanolic extract of the inflorescences ofAllium karataviense Rgl. (family Liliaceae). By the complete acid hydrolysis, enzymatic hydrolysis, methylation, and reduction of compound (I), and also by the reduction of yuccagenin (II), the structure of the glycoside (I) has been established as 25(R)-furost-5-ene-2α, 3β, 22α, 26-tetrao]

    New steroidal glycoside 1 was isolated by fractionation of total extracted compounds from rhizomes of Polygonatum verticillatum (Convallariaceae). Chemical transformations, physical constants, and spectral data characterized its structure as (25S)-spirost-5-en-3β-ol 3-O-β-D-glucopyranosyl-(1→3)-[β-Dfucopyranosyl-(1→2)]-β-D-glucopyranosyl-(1→4)-β-D-galactopyranoside.

    A new flavone glycoside (A) m.p. 258-260 ºC, m.f. C33H40O19, [M]+ 740 (FABMS), has been isolated from roots of Vernonia cinerea Less. It was characterized as 5,7,4-trihydroxy 3-methoxy flavone-4-O-a-L-rhamnopyranosyl-(1®4)-O-a-L-arabino-pyranosyl-(1®3)-O-b-D-galactopyranoside by various chemical degradations and spectral analysis which showed antiviral activity alongwith two known compounds luteolin (B) and taxifolin (C).

    Homooligomeric saccharides are of general interest with potential applications in chemical, pharmaceutical, and food industry as well as for materials with novel properties. This contribution describes a methodology of a base-promoted "single step self-oligomerization" of glycosyl fluorides as donors leading to oligomers with up to similar to 25 saccharide units. The influences of base and reaction time were examined. Linkage analysis of the corresponding alditol acetates by GC/MS allowed for calculation of average structural elements of oligomers.
