    A new emissive macrocycle ligand bearing three phenylurea groups (L-1) has been synthesized and fully characterised. Several mononuclear complexes with nitrate, perchlorate and tetrafluoroborate salts of transition and post-transition metals (Cu2+, Ni2+, Co2+, Zn2+ and Cd2+) were synthesized and characterized. For comparative purposes, the coordination ability of two nonfluorescent macrocyclic ligands (L-2 and L-3) containing three nitrophenylurea pendant-arms towards the same metal ions were studied. The interaction with transition and post-transition metal ions, and anions was explored in solution by UV-Vis and emission spectroscopy with ligand L-1. All new compounds were characterised by microanalysis, IR, UV-Vis and fluorescence emission, FAB and ESI mass spectrometry and conductivity measurements. (C) 2011 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

    We report a new H-bond macrocyclic chromogenic chemosensor in organic media, H33L, which displayed drastic changes in its UV–vis spectra revealing selectivity for dihydrogenphosphate over other inorganic anions, such as acetate or fluoride. The X-ray crystal structures of the [H444L⋯NO3]·(CH3CN)4 and [H444L⋯CF3CO2]·(CH3CN)2 salt complexes are also reported.

    Abstract A new series of alkaline-earth and transition metal complexes of Ca(II), Sr(II), Ba(II), Co(II), Ni(II) and Cu(II) with two pendant-arm oxaaza macrocyclic ligands, L1 and L2, with N4O2 and N4O3 donor sets, respectively, were synthesized by reaction of the ligand and the appropriate perchlorate salt in refluxing acetonitrile.     Two new colorimetric ligands (1-2) based on macrocyclic structures linked to three nitrophenylurea groups were synthesized in good yields and their responses toward anions were studied Anions with different shape such as of fluoride chloride bromide iodide hydroxide nitrate perclhorate cyanide or dihydrogen phosphate in DMSO solution were added and only fluoride hydroxide cyanide and dihydrogen phosphate enhances pi delocalization and shifts the pi-pi transition in both ligands leading to the generation of a pleasant orange color The result is a balance between the acidity of the nitrophenylurea-NH donors modulated by the basic character of the anions Stability constants for both receptors and the anions fluoride hydroxide cyanide and dihydrogen phosphate were determined spectrophotometrically using the program HYSPEC H-1 NMR titrations experiments with fluoride were carried out (C) 2010 Elsevier Ltd All rights reserved

    The coordination capability of the pendant-arm macrocyclic ligands - with different sizes, nature and number of the donor atoms - dioxotriaza 17-membered (L-1) and pentaaza 17-membered (L-2) towards nitrate and perchlorate Cd(II) salts, has been investigated. The complexes were prepared in 1:1 metal/ligand molar ratio. The characterization carried out by elemental analysis, FAB mass spectrometry, IR and NMR spectroscopy, conductivity measurements, together with the crystal structure of the complexes [CdL1(CH3CN)](ClO4)(2)center dot CH3CN and [CdL2](ClO4)(2) confirms the formation of mononuclear complexes in all cases. The X-ray diffraction of [CdL1(CH3CN)](ClO4)(2)center dot CH3CN complex presents a mononuclear endomacrocyclic structure with the metal ion coordinated by the five donor atoms from the macrocyclic framework, the amine group from the pendant-arm and one acetonitrile molecule, in a distorted pentagonal bipyramid geometry. The complex [CdL2](ClO4)(2) is also mononuclear, but the cadmium ion is in a distorted trigonal prism environment coordinated by the six nitrogen donor atoms from the ligand. In both cases, the perchlorate ions do not participate in the coordination to the metal ion, but they are involved in numerous hydrogen bond interactions inter- and intramolecular with phenoxy and amino-groups.
