    The disclosure of this application is directed to the production of silane modified copolymers of alkylene-alkyl acrylates by reacting a mixture containing a polysiloxane and a copolymer of alkylene-alkyl acrylate to produce a water-curable, silane modified copolymer. The polysiloxanes have the repeating unit: wherein R is a hydrocarbon radical, each V is hydrogen, a hydrocarbon radical or a hydrolyzable group and Z is a hydrolyzable group, n is an integer having a value of 1 to 18 inclusive, Z is a hydrolyzable group, and x is an integer having a value of at least 2. The silane modified copolymers can be extruded about electrical conductors, e.g. wires and cables, to provide insulation thereon characterized by improved surface characteristics.

    Relatively stable masterbatch compositions are provided comprising a matrix having a polysiloxane dispersed therein, prepared by admixing a solid or liquid matrix, a monomeric silane and a silane condensation catalyst with the result that the monomeric silane condenses to a polysiloxane which is dispersed throughout the matrix per se or as a reactant therein. The masterbatch composition can be admixed with alkylene-alkyl acrylate copolymers in the presence of an organic titanate, to produce water-curable compositions, containing water-curable, silane modified alkylene-alkyl acrylate copolymers, which are useful as extrudates about wires and cables providing protective coatings thereon.

    Polysiloxanes produced by polymerizing a monomeric silane in the presence of an organo metallic polymerisation catalyst, e.g. a metal carboxylate, and the use of the polysiloxanes to react with alkylene-alkyl acrylate copolymers to produce silane-modified, water-curable polymers. The polysiloxanes have the general formula: wherein R is a hydrocarbon radical or an oxy-substituted hydrocarbon radical, R1 is a hydrocarbon radical, each V is hydrogen, a hydrocarbon radical or a hydrolyzable group, Z is an alkoxy radical having one to 18 carbon atoms inclusive, n is an integer having a value of one to 18 inclusive and x is an integer having a value of at least 2.
