Copper-mediated decarboxylative trifluoromethylation provides a new protocol for the efficient preparation of α-trifluoromethyl ketones from propiolic acids. It was found that water is involved as a reactant in the reaction, which is significantly different from the previously reported decarboxylative fluoroalkylation reactions.

A photoredox-catalyzed approach for the difluoroalkylation of aminoacids was achieved through simultaneous decarboxylation and defluorination processes. This innovative protocol employs commonly available aminoacids and trifluoroacetophenones as the primary starting materials, eliminating the necessity for preactivation. This strategy has enabled the synthesis of several difluoroketone functionalized
An electrochemical methodology for the construction of α-CF3-substituted carbonylcompounds in moderate to good yields under exogenous metal and oxidant-free conditions has been developed. The protocol involves the single-electron oxidation of the aryl ring to generate a radical cation followed by a three-electron SN2 reaction resulting in the formation of α-CF3 substituted ketones.
