An efficient multicomponent reaction of 3‐indolyl‐3‐oxopropanenitriles with dialkylacetylenedicarboxylates and isocyanides under mild conditions leading to highly functionalized 6‐(indol‐3‐yl)‐4H‐pyrans in moderate to good yields has been developed.

A five-step approach was developed for the synthesis of a series of substituted indole-pyrido-indene pentacyclic compounds. Reaction proceeded via domino radical-mediated processes in the presence of the radical reagents LDA/TTMSS and AIBN/TTMSS.
