  Metabolism of benzofuran and 2,3-dihydrobenzofuran by P. putida UV4 each yielded cis-dihydrodiols; catalytic hydrogenation of the cis-dihydrodiols obtained from polycyclic arenes and azaarenes followed by diMTPA ester formation (using both R- and S-MTPA) on the cis-tetrahydrodiols formed the basis of a 1H-NMR method for the determination of both enantiomeric excess and absolute configuration.
