    The octaheterobicyclo[2.2.2]octanes MeSi(SiMe2SiMe2)(3)E(E=P, As) have been prepared in high yields (up to 50%) from the alkali metal phosphide or arsenide Na3E/K3E and the heptasilane MeSi(SiMe2SiMe2Cl)(3)[GRAPHICS]The cages were isolated by crystallization from heptane and the crystal structure of the arsenic compound was determined. The synthesis of the heptasilane MeSi(SiMe2SiMe2Cl)(3) is described too. All compounds were characterized by multinuclear NMR spectroscopy (H-1, Si-29, C-13, P-31) as well as elemental analysis.
