  Me3SiCl/NaI in acetone opens regioselectively tetrahydrofurfurylalcohols and hydroxy-3 tetrahydrofuran to give the corresponding iodoacetonides in good yields. An application to the synthesis of the exo-and endo-brevicomins is described.
