MeBma 2, C9 analog of MeBmt amino acid present in cyclosporine (immunosuppressive drug) is readily available in 5 steps (23% overall yield) from chiral aldehyde 7 by intermolecular opening at C-2 of chiral epoxy acid 10 with methylamine. The absolute configuration was initially introduced by means of Sharpless epoxidation of E chiral allylic alcohol 8.
