Abstract An efficient, mechanicallyactivated solid-state synthesis of flavones from 1-(2-hydroxyphenyl)-3-aryl-1,3-propanediones using high-speedballmilling is described. This method has notable advantages in terms of good yield, short reaction time, and neat conditions.

Ga(OTf)3 was explored as a novel catalyst for the cyclisation of 1-(2-hydroxyphenyl)-3-aryl-1,3-propanediones in nitromethane to flavones with excellent yields.
Rh-catalyzed asymmetric hydrogenation of 2-substituted 4H-thiochromenes and 4H-chromenes was successfully developed. This method provided highly efficient access to a series of chiral 2-substituted thiochromanes and chromanes in high yields with excellent enantioselectivities (up to 99% yield, 86–99% ee).
