4-oxathiinones from readily available starting compounds has been described. Cascade Michael addition–cycloacetalisation of acetoxy-, alkoxy-, and aryloxypyranones and 1,2-dinucleophiles under mild Lewis acidic conditions provides a direct access to oxygen and sulfur-containing complex heterocycles.
