A set of new dihydro-1H-pyrazolo[1,3-b]pyridine and pyrazolo[1,3-b]pyridine embelin derivatives was synthesized through a multicomponent reaction from natural embelin, 3-substituted-5-aminopyrazoles and aldehydes.
