Herein we report the palladium-catalyzed isomerization of highly substituted allylic alcohols and alkenyl alcohols by means of a single catalytic system. The operationally simple reaction protocol is applicable to a broad range of substrates and displays a wide functional group tolerance, and the products are usually isolated in high chemical yield. Experimental and computational mechanistic investigations
Rh-catalyzed hydroformylation of 2-arylpropenes becomes available using an unprecedented PNP ligand. The protocol provides a powerful strategy to access a wide library of 3-aryl-butyraldehydes with excellent selectivity and scalability. A concise total synthesis of rac-ar-turmerone is also pursued to demonstrate the practical nature of this protocol.
A resin-supported N-terminal prolyl peptide having a beta-turn motif and a polyleucine tether has been developed for the organocatalytic asymmetric transfer hydrogenation under aqueous conditions. Polyleucine accelerated the reaction in a highly enantioselective manner by providing a hydrophobic microenvironment around the prolyl residue. The investigation of catalyst structures indicates that the L-form of polyleucine is essential for both reaction efficiency and enantioselectivity. (c) 2009 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
