Hydroformylation of alkenes catalyzed by new dinuclear aryloxide- and carboxylate-bridged rhodium complexes

The new dinuclear aryloxide- and carboxylate-bridged rhodium complexes bis[mu-(2-methylphenolato)]bis[(eta(2):eta(2)-cycloocta-1,5-diene)rhodium], di(mu-docosanoato)bis[(eta(2):eta(2)-norborna-2,5-diene)rhodium] and bis[(mu-(adamant-1-yl)carboxylato]bis[(eta(2):eta(2)-norborna-2,5-diene)rhodium] have been prepared. The complexes were tested as catalysts in the hydroformylation of styrene with a total pressure of CO/H-2 (1:1) of 1000 psi, at 25 and 60 degreesC, and displayed a regio selectivity towards the branched aldehyde of up to 97%. The same complexes as catalysts in the hydroformylation of 1-octene displayed a regio selectivity for the linear aldehyde of up to 55%. (C) 2004 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

We have developed a C–O cross-coupling reaction of (hetero)aryl iodides with silver carboxylates via a AuI/AuIII catalytic cycle. The transformation featured exclusive chemoselectivity and moisture/air insensitivity.
