Two structurally simple photolabileprotectinggroups for releasing 1,2- and 1,3-diols have been developed. The diols can be protected in high yields and released from their corresponding acetals with high chemical efficiency.
Improved Plasmalogen Synthesis Using Organobarium Intermediates

An improved synthesis of plasmalogen type lipids is described. Transmetalation of lithioalkoxy allyl intermediates with BaI2 and subsequent alkylation with 1-iodoalkanes enables the stereoselective formation of O-(Z)-alkenyl ether as precursors for the synthesis of plasmenyl- and bisplasmenylcholines. This method provides a simple and adaptable approach for the stereocontrolled synthesis of plasmenyl derivatives with variations at the sn-1, sn-2, and sn-3 positions of the glycerol backbone.
Mild deprotection of tert-butyl and tert-amyl ethers leading either to alcohols or to trialkylsilyl ethers

Tert-butyl and tert-amyl ethers afford the corresponding tert-butyldimethylsilyl ethers when treated by one equivalent of tert-butyldimethylsilyl triflate (TBDMSOTf), followed by one equivalent of 2,6-lutidine. However, treatment by a catalytic amount of TBDMSOTf without base, led to the corresponding free alcohols.
