2-Isoxazolines were synthesized efficiently from a formal [4+1] cycloaddition of nitrosoalkenes and sulfurylides, which were generated in situ from α-haloketone oximes and dimethyl sulfonium salts. This approach provides a new method to synthesize a range of 2-isoxazolines in high yields and high regioselectivity.

Pd(OAc)2-catalyzed acetoxylations of 3-aryl or 3-alkyl groups mounted on a 2-isoxazoline ring were studied. Ortho-selective C–H bond activation directed by an isoxazolinyl group was realized. 2-Isoxazoline rings without and with one or two alkyl substituents in the 5-position were effective directing groups. The reaction of α-chlorooximes or the isomeric nitrosochlorides with keto-stabilized dimethylsulphonium or triphenylarsonium ylides affords trans-5-acyl-Δ2-isoxazolines (VIIa-m) in good yields.
