General base-tuned unorthodox synthesis of amides and ketoesters with water

We discovered a highly reactive λ3-hypervalent iodane species using an inorganic/organic base for the unorthodox synthesis of amides and ketoesters through grafting terminal alkynes. In contrast to the metal-catalyzed dehydrative approaches the in situ generated nonmetallic reagent efficiently created C–N/C–O and CO bonds with amines/alkynes and water at rt.

A metal-free direct oxidative formation of amides from aldehydes and amines using a hypervalentiodine(III) reagent or an ion-supported hypervalentiodine(III) reagent as a recyclable oxidant under mild conditions is reported.
Amides are an important class of compounds in pharmaceutical and agrochemical chemistry. Herein, we report a novel procedure for the synthesis of amides via PhI(OAc)2-mediated C–N bond cleavage of acylhydrazines with amines under metal free conditions. The protocol shows broad substrate scope, high yields, and simple and mild operation.
Amides can be synthesized directly fromaldehydes and amines in high yield using a catalyst. The reaction, involving aldehydes and amines, was carried out in a mixture containing choline chloride and aluminum nitrate as a solvent and a catalyst to produce amides.
