  The reaction of 2-imino-1,3-dimethylimidazoline (10, ImNH) with X-CH₂CH₂-X (11, X = p-CH₃C₆H₄SO₃) gives the diimine adduct ImN-CH₂CH₂-NIm · 2HX (12) from which the diimine ImN-CH₂CH₂-NIm (13) is obtained on treatment with KH. 13 reacts with (C₆H₅CN)₂PdCl₂ (15) to give the chelate complex (ImN-CH₂CH₂-NIm)PdCl₂ (16). The X-ray structures of 12 and 16 are reported.

  The bifunctional 2,3-dihydro-2-methoxyethylimino-l,3-dimethylimidazole (C₈H ₁₅N₃O , 10) is obtained from the reaction of methoxyethyl tosylate (7) and 2,3-dihydro-2-imino-1,3- dimethylimidazole (8) followed by deprotonation in good yield. 10 reacts with (COD)RhCl}2 (COD = 1,5-cyclooctadiene) to give the imine complex (C₈H ₁₅N₃O)Rh(COD)Cl (11), which is converted into the chelate complex [(C₈H₁₅N₃O)Rh(COD)]BF₄ (12) on treatment with AgBF₄.   1,3-Dimethyl-2-iminoimidazoline (4, ImNH) reacts with CS₂ to give the imidazolium salt [ImNH₂][(ImNCS₂)₂H] (7) in which two dithioformimide fragments are linked by a hydrogen bridge. From the trimethylsilyl derivative ImNSiMe₃ (11) and CS₂ the adduct ImNSiMe₃ • CS₂ (12) is obtained which reacts with oxygen to give the disulfide (ImNCS₂) (14). The X-ray structures of 7 and 14 were determined.

  The barbiturate salts 2-amino-1,3-dimethylimidazolium N,N’-dimethylbarbiturate (8) and 1,3- diisopropyl-4,5-dimethylimidazolium N,N’-dimethylbarbiturate (10) are obtained from N,N’- dimethylbarbituric acid (6) and 2-imino-1,3-dimethylimidazoline (7) or 2,3-dihydro-1,3-diisopropyl- 4,5-dimethylimidazol-2-ylidene (9) in good yields. Their crystal structures reveal the presence of strong interionic N-H-O (8) and C-H-O (10) hydrogen bonds to give dimeric (8) and monomeric (10) ion pairs. These pairs are linked by weak C-H-O hydrogen contacts to give three-dimensional networks.
