Oxidative reactions of α-allyl-β-keto esters 5 with Mn(OAc)3·2H2O give the δ-hydroxy-β-,γ-unsaturated-α-keto esters 6 in good yields. The mechanism of this reaction is discussed.

A catalytic allylic alkylation was developed via the cross-dehydrogenative-coupling reaction of allylic sp3 C-H and methylenic sp3 C-H catalyzed by copper bromide and cobalt chloride in the presence of an oxidizing reagent, t-BuOOH. This methodology provides a direct way to use allylic sp3 C-H bonds for forming C-C bonds.

Poly-substituted dihydrofurans and tetrahydrofurans have been synthesized through polymer-supported selenium-induced intramolecular electrophilic cyclization, followed by selenoxide syn-elimination or novel nucleophilic substitution cleavage of selenium resin with good yields and purities.
