In this reaction, stable and commercially available diethyl dicarbonate serves as a practical alkoxycarbonyl source, and only ethanol and CO2 were produced as byproducts. The utility of this protocol was demonstrated by a gram-scale reaction and the transformation of the ethyl ester moiety.
