Volume Fraction of Ether Is a Significant Factor in Controlling Conductivity in Proton Conducting Polyether Based Polymer Sol–Gel Electrolytes

We have synthesized several copolymers of methyl polyethylene glycol siloxane (MePEG(7)SiO(3))(m) and methyl polypropylene glycol siloxane (MePPG(n)SiO(3))(m) as hydrogen ion (H+) conducting polymer electrolytes. These copolymers were prepared by a solgel polymerization of mixtures of the MePEG and MePPG monomers. We synthesized these H+ conducting polymer electrolytes in order to study the relationship between observed ionic conductivity and structural properties such as viscosity, fractional free volume, and volume fraction of ether. We found that viscosity increased as the fraction of the smaller comonomer increased. For the MePPG(2)/MePPG(3) copolymer, an increase in fractional free volume increased the fluidity. The heterogeneous copolymers (PEG/PPG copolymers) obeyed the Doolittle equation, while the homogeneous (PEG/PEG and PPG/PPG) copolymers did not. The increase of FFV did not, however, correspond to an increase in conductivity, as would have been predicted by the Forsythe equation. The conductivity data did correspond to a modified Forsythe equation substituting Volume Fraction of Ether (V-f,V-ether) for FFV. We conclude that the proton conductivity of MePEG copolymers is more dependent on the volume fraction of ether than on the fractional free volume.

An aromatic amine compound capable of satisfactorily forming a cured product having exceptional alkali resistance by reaction with an epoxy compound; a curing agent for an epoxy compound, the curing agent including the aromatic amine compound; a curable composition including the curing agent for an epoxy compound; a cured product of the curable composition; a method for producing the cured product; and a method for producing the abovementioned aromatic amine compound. The aromatic amine compound has a structure such that a specific position in a central skeleton comprising a fused ring such as a fluorene ring is substituted with a side-chain group including two aromatic groups linked by a flexible bond such as an amide bond, at least one amino group is bonded to the end of the side-chain group, and the structure has no hydroxyl groups.
An object of the present invention is to provide a metal oxide particle which exercises more excellent ultraviolet absorbency as a matter of course and combines therewith merits of, for example, either being shifted in ultraviolet absorption edge toward the longer wavelength side and being excellent also in the absorption efficiency of a long-wavelength range of ultraviolet rays, or having good transparency and, for example, even in cases where added into or coated onto substrates, not damaging the transparency or hue of the substrates. As a means of achieving this object, a metal oxide particle according to the present invention is a metal oxide particle such that a hetero-element is contained in a particle comprising an oxide of a specific metal element (M), wherein the metal oxide particle is: 1) a metal oxide particle in the form of a fine particle wherein the hetero-element is at least one specific metal element (M′); 2) a metal oxide particle wherein the hetero-element includes at least two specific metal elements (M′); 3) a metal oxide particle wherein: the hetero-element is a more specified metal element (M′) and at least a part thereof is 2 in valence; or the metal element (M) is a more specified metal element and the metal oxide particle is in a specific range in crystal grain diameter in the vertical direction to each of the (002) plane and the (100) plane; or 4) a metal oxide particle wherein: the hetero-element is at least one specific nonmetal element and an acyl group is contained in the particle; or the hetero-element includes at least two specific nonmetal elements; or the hetero-element is at least one specific nonmetal element and a component derived from a metal element (M′) other than the metal element (M) is contained in the particle.

Described herein are hemi-aminal ethers and thioethers of N-alkenyl cyclic compounds that may be produced through a reaction comprising: (A) at least one first reactant represented by a structure (I), wherein X is a functionalized or unfunctionalized C1-C5 alkylene group optionally having one or more heteroatoms, and each R1, R2, and R3 is independently selected from the group consisting of hydrogen and functionalized and unfunctionalized alkyl groups optionally having one or more heteroatoms, and (B) at least one second reactant having at least one hydroxyl moiety or thiol moiety. The hemi-aminal ethers and thioethers of N-alkenyl cyclic compounds may comprise a polymerizable moiety, in which case they may be left as-is or used to create homopolymers or non-homopolymers, or they may not comprise a polymerizable moiety. A wide variety of formulations may be created using the hemi-aminal ethers and thioethers of N-alkenyl cyclic compounds, including personal care, oilfield, and construction formulations.
