    The present invention relates to copolymers made from a polymerization mixture comprising (a) one or more polymerizable monomers, which monomers are characterized as having at least one vinylic group and not containing an amino acid residue, (b) one or more not-functionalized side chain-linked amino acids, (c) one or more functionalized side chain-linked amino acids, (d) a free radical initiator and, optionally, (e) a chain-transfer-agent. It also relates to block copolymers comprising the same monomers. The invention also encompasses silicone hydrogel contact lenses coated with or comprising the latter copolymers and block copolymers as well methods for introducing the copolymers and block copolymers into silicone hydrogel contact lenses.

    The invention relates to highly biocompatible or biophilic un-cross-linked or cross-linked polymers comprising one or more side-chain active acrylic amino acids of formula I wherein: X is —NH(CH 2 ) 4 —, —O—C 6 H 4 —CH 2 —, —OCH 2 —, —O—CH(CH 3 )—, —S—CH 2 —, —O-proline, and R is H or CH 3 ; and wherein the polymer further includes a free radical initiator and, optionally, a cross-linking agent having a plurality of polymerizable ethylenically unsaturated groups. The invention further concerns various highly biocompatible, cross-linked co-polymers comprising one or more monomers of formula I, and one or more other polymerizable monomers. Uses of such polymers and co-polymers for the production of contact lenses, intraocular lenses, implants, wound healing slabs, additives for food and cosmetics, conductive plastics, spinnable fibers, and the like are disclosed.

    The present invention relates to acrylic copolymer materials, useful for forming ophthalmic devices, and process for making the same. The acrylic copolymer material comprises polymer units derived from an α,β-ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid monomer and an aryl (meth)acrylate monomer. Specifically, an α,β-ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid monomer represented by formula (I): wherein R1 and R2 independently represent a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group having up to 6 carbon atoms, and R3 represents a hydrogen atom or a methyl group; and an aryl (meth)acrylate monomer represented by formula (II): wherein X represents a hydrogen atom or a methyl group, and R represents a covalent bond, or a substituted or unsubstituted hydrocarbyl group and Ar is any aromatic ring, such as benzene, which can be unsubstituted or substituted with H, CH3, C2H5, n-C3H7, iso-C3H7, OCH3, C6H11, Cl, Br, C6H5 or CH2C6H5.

    The styrenic thermoplastic resin composition having excellent impact strength of the present invention comprises (A) about 10 to about 99% by weight of a thermoplastic resin including one or more compounds selected from the group consisting of styrenic copolymer resin(a1) and rubber-modified vinyl graft copolymer(a2);and (B) about 1 to about 90% by weight of a branched styrenic copolymer resin prepared by including a silicon based compound. The thermoplastic resin composition of the present invention is a resin composition having improved flow property, compactibility and impact strength as applying branched styrenic copolymer resin.
