A new method is described for manufacturing 3-ethoxy-4-ethoxycarbonylphenylacetic acid, which is a key intermediate of the antidiabetic drug repaglinide, starting from 3-hydroxyphenylacetic acid and involving esterification, formylation, oxidation, etherification and selective hydrolysis.
