A vinyl fluoride analogue of the intermediate in the reaction catalysed by type II dehydroquinase enzymes has been synthesized over seven steps from (-)-quinic acid and shown to be a potent enzyme inhibitor.

The fluoro analogue of the enolate intermediate in the reaction catalyzed by typeIIdehydroquinases has been prepared from naturally occurring (-)-quinic acid over seven steps and has been shown to be the most potentinhibitor reported to date of the typeII enzyme from Mycobacterium tuberculosis.
