    <p>Inorganic base promoted highly selective N-hydroxymethylation of indole and its derivatives have been developed. It provided a simple method for the preparation of N-hydroxymethyl indoles with polyformaldehyde as reagents under the metal- and Lewis acid-free reaction conditions.
