    An emulsion composition of a modified polypropylene. It can have exceedingly improved emulsion stability because the modified polypropylene used has extremely high solubility in solvents and is easily emulsifiable. The modified-polypropylene emulsion composition comprises water and a modified polypropylene dispersed and emulsified therein, and is characterized in that the modified polypropylene has a racemic diad content [r] of 0.12 to 0.88 and has hydrophilic functional groups in a number of 0.5 or larger on the average per molecular chain of the polypropylene.

    A surface treating agent for fabricated articles of olefin polymers which is composed of an organic solvent solution of a modified polymer resulting from the graft copolymerization of a propylene-ethylene copolymer with maleic acid or maleic anhydride. The propylene-ethylene copolymer has a propylene content of 50 to 75 mole% and a crystallinity determined by an X-ray diffraction method of 2 to 20%. The amount of maleic acid or maleic anhydride grafted is 0.5 to 15% by weight. The modified polymer has an intrinsic viscosity of at least 0.3 dl/g, and is dissolved in the organic solvent in a concentration of 10 to 100 kg/m) of solvent. The treating agent can be prepared by dissolving the propylene-ethylene copolymer in the organic solvent before carrying out the grafting reaction or by carrying out the grafting reaction in a melt before adding the organic solvent. The treating agent is suitable for use as an undercoat for olefin polymer articles and improves the adhesion of a paint thereto.

    Class of high performance thermosetting materials composed of polyarylene polyether resins having each of their ends capped with a monovalent unsaturated organo radical. The end-capped polyarylene polyether resins have the formula: wherein Z and Z' are each a monovalent unsaturated organo radical. Usually Z and Z' are alkylene, aralkylene or cycloalkylene moieties. The end-capped polyarylene polyethers can be cured as is or in the presence of one or more unsaturated comonomers to afford homopolymers or copolymers, respectively. Such cured systems exhibit high glass transition temperatures, good tensile properties, excellent electric and alkali resistance and improved stress cracking resistance. End- terminated polysulfone resins having molecular weight of 5,00 to 15.000 are especially advantageous. The properties exhibited by the vinyl/allyl terminated oligomers are useful in fields which require high temperature performance, excellent solvent resistance and good fabrication characteristics. Specific areas of application include high performance molded products for appliances and electronics, high temperature laminates and adhesives and protective and insulative coatings.

    Method of and apparatus for making a shaped cross- linked extruded polymeric product by extruding compacted, melted polymer, e.g., polyethylene, into a mixer (18) formed on or fitted to the discharge end of an extruder, injecting proportionate amounts of a mixture of compounding ingredients including olefinically unsaturated hydrolyzable silane, free-radical generator and, preferably, a silanol condensation catalyst into the compacted, melted polymer. The polymer and compounding ingredients are blended in the mixer (18) until the silane is grafted to said polymer, and the resulting grafted polymer mixed with the silanol condensation catalyst is extruded through a die to form the product of the required final shape. The resulting product is subjected to the action of H20 until the grafted polymer is cross- linked.
