An efficient and regioselective three‐component heteroarylation‐nitration of alkenes with imidazo[1,2‐a ]pyridines and tert ‐butyl nitrite has been developed. The process tolerants a variety of functional groups under mild conditions in the absence of catalysts and additives to give nitro functionalized imidazo[1,2‐a ]pyridine derivatives in moderate to good yields. (bis-NHC) salts that can be easily made from commercially available and inexpensive starting materials. The application of these salts to Pd-catalyzed reactions is described. The palladium (Pd) catalyst generated in situ was highly effective undermild reaction conditions.

The addition of indole and methyl indole at both high and ambient pressures to a series of Michael acceptors under the influence of ytterbium triflate was investigated. Under ambient pressure the more reactive and less stericallyhindered electrophiles gave the expected 3-alkylated indoles in good to excellent yields.
