Abstract Granular potato starch and amylopectin potato starch were methylated in aqueous suspension to molar substitutions (MS) up to 0.29. A method was developed to determine the MS of both branched and linear regions. After exhaustive digestion of the methylatedstarches with α -amylase, the highly branched fraction with a degree of polymerisation (DP) > 8 was separated from the linear oligomers

Methanolysis of methylated hyaluronic acid, followed by acetylation, gave, in 70% yield, crystalline methyl 2-acetamido-2-deoxy-4,6-di-O-methyl-3-O-(methyl 4-O-acetyl-2,3-di-O-methyl-beta-D-glucopyranosyluronate) -alpha-D-glucopyranoside.
