Monomeric or polymeric compounds comprising at least one moiety of the formula (Ia) wherein X is CR, where R is H or a substituent as defined in claim 1, or is another ketopyrrole moiety e.g. of the formula (Ib) or (Ic) with this moiety and all other symbols are as defined in claim 1, show good solubility in organic solvents and excellent film-forming properties. The present invention is related to the development of novel compounds and methods for the treatment and/or prevention of malaria. The compounds prevent the formation by the malaria parasite of the piasmodium surface anion channel (PSAC) on the surface of the host cell. The compounds and methods described herein are effective against infection by a wide variety ofPlasmodiastrains known as the causative agent of malaria.
