  Abstract The reaction of acetyl isothiocyanate 1 with ethyl cyanoacetate, malononitrile and/or a cyclic β-diketone afforded the corresponding 1,3-oxazines 3, 11 and thioamide 12 respectively. The heteroannulation of 3 and the synthesis of thiazole 18 is described.
