Modified silicasulfuricacid (MSSA) as a new type of silicasulfuricacid was prepared and effectively used in the conjugate addition of indole, pyrrole, and thiols with Michael acceptors under mild conditions at room temperature. Also, MSSA was used as a catalyst for the synthesis of 1,1,3‐tri‐indolyl compounds in good to excellent yield at room temperature. J. Heterocyclic Chem., (2011).
Abstract A simple and novel bimetallic catalyst, an iron and magnesium complex (Fe‐Mg‐hexamethylphosphoramide (HMPA)), with dual activation was found to be an effective and promising catalyst for the Michael‐type Friedel–Craftsreactions of indoles with chalcones. Co(ClO4)2·6H2O/bis-Schiff base complexes promoted the conjugateaddition of indole to α,β-unsaturated ketones under mild conditions, giving the corresponding addition products with high yields. And the complex has been characterized with XRD and IR.

An Al(OTf)3 catalysed efficient Friedel–Crafts Michael type addition of indoles to α,β-unsaturated ketones using recyclable PEG-200 as an alternative reaction solvent is disclosed. The reaction under microwave irradiation is clean, leads to excellent yields in minutes and reduces the use of volatile organic compounds.
