Solid H 3 PW 1 2 O 4 0 is easily used as a heterogeneous, reusable and efficient catalyst (1 mol%) for the selective addition of thiols and dithiols to α,β-unsaturated ketones in MeCN to afford the corresponding Michael adducts in excellent yields at room temperature.

The present invention relates to the field of perfumery. The present invention relates to compounds of formula (I) that are able to provide a long-lasting or substantive odor, in particular floral and/or fruity odor, to the environment. Moreover, the present invention relates to a method of imparting a long-lasting odor, in particular a fresh green, floral and/or fruity odor, to surfaces, such as hard surfaces, fabric, skin or hair. The use of tetrabutylammonium hydroxide as a novel and exceedingly efficient thia-Michael addition catalyst is herein described. This extremely simple methodology allows for the conjugate addition of a wide variety of mercaptan nucleophiles, and functions remarkably well with a very wide range of both classical and non-classical Michael acceptors. Contradistinctive to current literature reports, the use of this catalyst more efficiently promotes the addition of more basic thiols. This methodology is especially attractive and operationally simple, as it generally proceeds with only 1 mol% catalytic loading and without excess reagent, and the produced products typically require no purification.
