The present invention relates to electronic devices, especially electroluminescent devices, comprising compounds of formula (I), and/or (II), especially as host for phosphorescent emitters, electron transporting materials, or emitter materials. The hosts may function with phosphorescent materials to provide improved efficiency, stability, manufacturability, or spectral characteristics of electroluminescent devices.

Alkyl, vinyl and aryl substituted carbazoles at the 3- and 6-positions are prepared in high yield from the corresponding 3,6-dibromocarbazole via nickel catalyzed coupling with Grignard reagents (Corriu-Kumada coupling).
The present invention relates to novel organic compounds comprising at least two different selections selected from the group consisting of N-phenyl carbazole, dibenzofuran, dibenzothiophene, triphenylene, aza-(N-phenyl carbazole), aza-dibenzofuran, aza-dibenzothiophene, and aza-triphenylene. The compounds are useful for organic light-emitting diodes. The compounds are also useful for charge-transport and charge-blocking layers, and as hosts in the light-emissive layer for organic light emitting devices (OLEDs).
The present application relates to an electronic device comprising a xanthene or thioxanthene compound of a particular formula. The electronic device is preferably an organic electroluminescent device (OLED). The application further relates to particular xanthene or thioxanthene compounds as such, and to the use thereof in the abovementioned devices, and to processes for preparation thereof.
