5-Amino-4-trifluoromethylthiazoles and 5-Aminomethyl-4-trifluoromethyl-1,3-azoles: Useful Starting Materials for the Synthesis of Biologically Active Compounds The title compounds are obtained from 5-fluoro-4-trifluoromethyl-1,3-azoles. Introduction of various side chains of potential biological interest at C-5 can be achieved with electrophiles by reaction of the amino group.

Introduction of Amino Groups Adjacent to Trifluoromethyl Groups in Heterocyclic Compounds; Synthesis of 5-Amino-4-trifluoromethylthiazoles On reaction of 5-fluoro-4-trifluoromethylthiazoles 5 with primary aromatic and heteroaromatic amines, in the presence of 4-dimethylaminopyridine, a transamination process occurs to yield 5-amino-4-trifluoromethylthiazoles 2. Likewise, compounds 2 are formed in excellent yields on reaction of 5-azido-4-trifluoromethylthiazoles 1 with certain enamines.
