An efficient copper-catalyzed method for the synthesis of quinolinones, pyridinones, and heteroannulated pyridinones via cascade reactions of substituted 2-iodo-, 2-bromo-, and 2-chlorobenzocarbonyls with 2-arylacetamides is reported.
