A copper-catalyzed decarboxylative cycloaddition of propiolic acids, azides, and arylboronicacids is described. The present reaction provides an efficient and convenient method for the synthesis of various fully substituted 1,2,3-triazoles from readily available starting materials. A possible mechanism is proposed.

The [3 + 2] cycloaddition of alkynylboronates and azides provides a direct route to novel triazole boronicesters, the regioselectivity of this process and functionalisation of the heterocycle products is described.
Alkynylboronates represent useful substrates for the direct synthesis of triazole boronic esters by their thermal cycloaddition with azides. A telescoped cycloaddition-cross-coupling protocol is reported and its employment in the synthesis of a small triazole array is disclosed. (C) 2009 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
