The selectivecatalyticoxidation of monosaccharides was applied to butylxylosides and butylglucosides leading to the formation of bioactive karrikins, molecules that are important in the response to catastrophic fires. Butanosolv processing of biomass provides a co-product stream that contains these starting materials providing relevance to this work in the biorefinery context.
