Synthesis and characterization of ferrocene-perylenetetracarboxylic diimide–fullerene triad

Novel ferrocene-perylenetetracarboxylic diimide-fullerene hybrid has been synthesized and characterized. UV/vis spectroscopic and cyclic voltammetric results indicate that ferrocene-contained hybrid show weak intramolecular charge transfer interaction in their ground states. The preliminary studies have shown that electron transfer from the ferrocene unit to the perylenetetracarboxylic diimide in dyad FcP takes place, while electron transfer from the ferrocene to the peryienetetracarboxylic diimide and electron transfer from the perylenetetracarboxylic diimide unit to the fullerene are proposal process in the case of FcPF.
