A New Method for the Facile Synthesis of Hydroxylated Flavones by Using Allyl Protection

iodine‐induced oxidative cyclization of 2′‐hydroxychalcones provides a simple, highly efficient approach to various hydroxy flavones and analogues. This process is run under mild conditions, tolerates various functional groups, and provides hydroxy flavones in good to excellent yield. The allyl‐protected acetophenones and benzaldehydes were smoothly deallylated under similar conditions.
A compound of the formula: ##STR1## wherein X is a member selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, alkyl of from 1 to 3 carbon atoms, inclusive, chlorine or bromine; Y is a member selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, chlorine or bromine and R is a member selected from the group consisting of hydrogen or lower alkyl of from 1 to 3 carbon atoms. The compounds can be applied to seeds, plants, animals, objects, or places for preventing damage due to fungi. General methods for preparing the active compounds, compositions and methods of use are shown.

A new class of isoxazole derivatives, namely 2-(3-aryl-4-methylisoxazol-5-yl)phenols, has been efficiently synthesized through the regioselective reaction of 2-aryl-3-methylchromones with hydroxylamine. The products were characterized by spectroscopic methods and X-ray crystallography..
