The reaction of 1,2-anhydro-3,4:5,6-di-O-isopropylidene-1-C-nitro-d-mannitol (2) with potassium hydrogenfluoride in ethylene glycol under anhydrous conditions provides a route to 2-deoxy-2-fluoro-d-glucose, the 18F-labeled analog of which is an important radiopharmaceutical of use in medical imaging.
