A golf ball includes a single core having an outer surface and a geometric center. The core is formed from a substantially homogenous rubber composition. An inner cover layer is disposed about the core, the inner cover including a high-acid ionomer and having a material hardness of about 66 to 75 Shore D. The high-acid ionomer has an acid content of about 16% or greater. An outer cover layer is disposed about the inner cover layer, the outer cover including a polyurethane and having a material hardness of about 38 Shore D to about 56 Shore D. The core surface hardness is from 0 Shore C to 15 Shore C lower than the geometric center hardness to define a hardness gradient.

A golf ball comprising an inner core layer including a thermoplastic material and having a geometric center hardness less than the surface hardness to define a positive hardness gradient. An outer core layer is formed over the inner core. The outer core includes a thermoset rubber composition and has an inner surface hardness less than an outer surface hardness to define a positive hardness gradient. A cover layer is formed over the outer core layer. The cover layer includes an inner cover layer and an outer cover layer. The thermoplastic material of the core includes an acid copolymer of ethylene and an α,β-unsaturated carboxylic acid, optionally a softening monomer comprising alkyl acrylate or methacrylate; a plasticizer; an organic acid or salt thereof; and a cation source present in an amount sufficient to neutralize from about 70 to about 100% of all acid groups present in the material.
Golf ball comprising a core having a hardness gradient and an outer cover layer having a microhardness gradient and being formed from a thermoset polyurethane material throughout, and having: i) a treated region that is contacted with a thermoset polyurethane microhardness-increasing solution consisting of an isocyanate portion and at least one non-aqueous solvent; and ii) an untreated region that is not contacted with the thermoset polyurethane microhardness-increasing solution. The treated region comprises the isocyanate portion, whereas the untreated region does not comprise the isocyanate portion. Treated region has a microhardness M1 that is greater than microhardness M2 of untreated region to define the outer cover layer positive microhardness gradient ΔM=M1−M2. The treated region may have a depth Dtr that extends inward from the cover outer surface and in some embodiments is less than a thickness of the untreated region. Golf ball having CoR of at least 0.700 and compression of at least 50 and comprising a layer of a mixture of thermoset or thermoplastic composition and a plurality of conductive nanoshelled structures such as conductive hollow nanoshells and/or nanorice particles. Conductive nanoshelled structures may be included in amount of from about 2 wt % to greater than 50 wt. % of total weight of mixture. Diameter of each conductive nano shelled structure at widest cross-section may be up to 1000 nm. Each conductive hollow nanoshell may have shell thickness to longitudinal diameter ratio of from about 1:3 to about 1:100. Each nanorice particle may have longitudinal diameter of up to 1000 nm. Shell thickness can be from 1 nm to 100 nm and may be controlled. A layer consisting of mixture may have specific gravity that differs from specific gravity of a layer consisting of the thermoset or thermoplastic composition portion of mixture.
