Tin(II) enolates of thioesters are conveniently generated by the addition of stannous thiolates to ketenes. The tin(II) enolates thus formed react with aldehydes to afford the corresponding β-hydroxythioesters in a syn-selective manner. And this method is applied to an enantioselective formation of β-hydroxythioesters by the use of a chiral diamine as ligand.

Herein, we describe the generation of highly reactive monoalkyl and phenyl ketenes by using a dehalogenation procedure under flow conditions. All ketenes were generated in good yields (determined by quenching with an appropriate aniline derivative) and showed high reactivity in the [2+2] cycloaddition with imines, resulting in the formation of a range of β-lactams at room temperature in less than 10

The photolysis of aceticanhydride has been reinvestigated in the temperature region from 30 to 195 °C. Two primary processes occur with about equal probability:Analogous primary processes have been proposed for the photochemical decomposition of propionic anhydride.The abstraction reaction:is of importance, and the results indicate that it has an activation energy of about 9.6 kcal./mole.

Ketenes (R1R2CCO, R1, R2 = H or alkyl) react rapidly at −79°C with hydridotetracarbonylcobalt in a 11 molar ratio to form quantitatively the corresponding acyltetracarbonylcobalts, which can be isolated in good to excellent yields. Electron-withdrawing substituents in the ketene lower the reactivity towards HCo(CO)4.
