A new approach to porphyrinofullerene donor–acceptor dyads, based on consecutive 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition of azomethine ylides, generated from bis-aziridinedicarboxylate, to C60 and to porphyrin with a maleimidophenyl substituent, was developed.
