Silica phenyl sulfonicacid (SPSA) was prepared and effectively used in the one‐pot synthesis of 2‐aryl‐1‐arylmethyl‐1H‐1,3‐benzimidazoles from o‐phenylenediamine with aldehydes in water in the presence of tetrabutyl ammonium bromide with good to high yield. Also, SPSA was used as a catalyst for the synthesis of bis(indolyl)methanes in water. J. Heterocyclic Chem., (2011).

Easy and rapid preparation of bis-indolyl, tris-indolyl, di(bis-indolyl), tri(bis-indolyl) and tetra(bis-indolyl) methanes from indole with various aldehydes and ketones using poly (N,N'-dichloro-N-ethyl-benzene-1,3-disulfonamide) [PCBS] and N,N,N',N'-tetrachlorobenzene-1,3-disulfonamide [TCBDA] as novel catalysts under various conditions are here described.

A simple and highly efficient green protocol for synthesis of bis(indolyl)methanes was carried out by the reaction of indole with aldehydes and ketones in the presence of FeCl3−based ionicliquid. These liquids serve as efficient media as well as Lewis acid catalysts.

Fast and clean synthesis of mono, bis and tris diindolylmethanes from various aldehydes and indoles in the presence of an efficient reusable catalyst, nano-Fe3O4, in high yield and short reaction time is reported.
